Nodosis DS Tab is an antacid and may be used to treat the symptoms of stomach or duodenal ulcers and also used to make the blood and urine more alkaline in certain conditions. This medicine is also indicated in severe diarrhea and in the treatment of certain medicine intoxications in oredr to to diminish toxicity in kidneys. However, the uses mentioned here may not be exhaustive. There may be other reasons or situations in which this medicine might be used.

      Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, is a salt that breaks down to form sodium and bicarbonate in water. This breakdown makes a solution alkaline, meaning it is able to neutralize acid. Sodium bicarbonate is often used to treat conditions caused by high acidity in the body, like heartburn. Sodium bicarbonate is used in the treatment of metabolic acidosis which may occur in severe renal disease, cardiac arrest, uncontrolled diabetes, extracorporeal circulation of blood and severe primary lactic acidosis.

      How to Use

      How to Use

      Nodosis DS Tab can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. The dose and duration should be followed as prescribed by your doctor. It is best to take Nodosis DS Tab at a fixed time. It is important that this medicine should not be taken more than the recommended dose.
      Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not try to break/crush/chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take Nodosis DS Tab as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take it at the next scheduled time. Do not take two doses of Nodosis DS Tab at the same time as it can be dangerous to your health.
      Bear in mind that it takes a few weeks for the medicine to work so you need to take it regularly even if you feel it is not doing you any good. You must keep taking the medicine until your doctor advises you to stop
      Nodosis DS Tab should be taken only by the person for whom it has been recommended by a qualified physician.

      Overdosage

      Signs and symptoms MAY BE NOTED in case of an overdosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions in your body after taking this medicine, please contact your doctor immediately. It is best to avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage of this medicine. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary from individual to individual. It is possible you may experience the following signs or symptoms:

      • Aggravated congestive heart failure (CHF)
      • Cerebral hemorrhage.
      • Swelling (edema)
      • High blood sodium levels

      Driving:

Most people do not realize that many prescription and over-the-counter medicines can cause drowsiness and impair the ability to drive, thus making driving dangerous for themselves and others.       How does Sodium Bicarbonate work:

      Sodium bicarbonate lowers stomach acid. It lowers acid in the blood and urine. It lowers potassium levels in the body.

      How should Sodium Bicarbonate be used:

      Take this drug 1 to 3 hours after meals as an antacid. Mix effervescent granules and powder with a full glass of water and drink.

      Common side effects of Sodium Bicarbonate :

      Belly pain. Bloating. Gas. More thirst. Low potassium levels. Signs include feeling tired, weak, numbness, or tingling; muscle cramps; hard stools (constipation); throwing up; or a fast heartbeat.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

      What precautions should I take when taking Sodium Bicarbonate :

      If you have an allergy to sodium bicarbonate or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: High bicarbonate levels, high sodium levels, low calcium levels, belly pain, or water in the lungs.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of low potassium. Trouble breathing. Change in thinking clearly and with logic. Very bad swelling. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Sodium Bicarbonate with other medicines:

      This medicine increases the amount of sodium in your body. If you are on a sodium-restricted diet, check with your doctor before taking sodium bicarbonate.
