Nor Metrogyl O Syrup 60ml is an antibiotic medication helps to fight against certain bacterial and parasitic infections in the body such as trichomoniasis, giardiasis, acute intestinal amebiasis (amebic dysentery), anaerobic bacterial infection, antibiotic-associated pseudomembranous colitis, and in helicobacter pylori eradication therapy. This medicine also used in dental, joints, and skin, lungs, prostate or urinary tract infections. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctors discretion.
The active ingredients of Nor Metrogyl O Syrup 60ml are Metronidazole 100mg and Ofloxacin 50mg/5ml.
Metronidazole is a biologically inactive compound which can be metabolized in the body (prodrug) to produce its effect. This acts by withholding the bacterial nucleic acid synthesis and helps in the ramification of bacterial cell death.
Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone which acts by showing bactericidal activity against a wide range of gram negative and gram positive microorganisms and also restrain bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase enzymes.

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Nor Metrogyl O Syrup 60ml. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by the doctor. Nor Metrogyl O Syrup 60ml is meant for oral administration. Shake the bottle well before using. Dosage can be administered with the cap that comes along with the container.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Do not consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take Nor Metrogyl O Syrup 60ml with or without food, preferably after food.

Inform your doctor if you have any hepatic problems because this may get metabolized in the liver.
Metronidazole: Caution advised during pregnancy. This drug is not recommended during the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Hence, inform your doctor once before taking the Nor Metrogyl O Syrup 60ml.
Ofloxacin: Inform your doctor before taking this drug if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant because no data available whether this drug may harm an infant or not.
Metronidazole: Caution advised during lactation; possible risk of infant diarrhea and oral thrush based upon the limited human data and no human data available to evaluate effects on the milk production.
Ofloxacin: Do not breastfeed your infant if you take this drug because this drug may pass into breast milk and harm a breastfed infant.
Do not take alcohol at least for 3 days after taking this Nor Metrogyl O Syrup 60ml because this may lead to unpleasant side effects such as tachycardia, warmth or redness under the skin, tingling sensation, nausea, and vomiting.
Caution always advised when used with other medicines such as over the counter medicines, herbal supplements, and vitamins supplements such as aluminum, calcium, iron magnesium and zinc and also with other drugs such as cimetidine, antiepileptics, anticoagulants, lithium, disulfiram, calcium, magnesium, aluminum, sucralfate, didanosine powder.
Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.

Use Metronidazole exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Metronidazole may cause diarrhoea, nausea, loss of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth, constipation and dark or tea-coloured urine. These side effects are usually temporary. If you have diarrhoea, drink lots of water to replace the fluids lost. However, if you have severe diarrhoea or diarrhoea with severe stomach cramps or bloody stools, alert your doctor.
Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.
Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
