      Pacitane 2MG tablet is used with other medicines to treat Parkinson’s disease. It’s also used to treat severe movement side effects caused by certain drugs (drug-induced movement disorder). It also helps in reducing the stiffness of the muscles and improves muscle control, allowing the patient to move naturally. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive. There may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      Pacitane 2MG (Trihexyphenidyl) belongs to anticholinergics that work by blocking a certain natural substance ( acetylcholine). This helps decrease muscle stiffness, sweating, and the production of saliva and helps improve walking ability in people with Parkinson’s disease.

      How to Use

      Take Pacitane 2MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Do not use for long duration unless prescribed by your doctor. Avoid missing or forgetting the dose, if you do, take the tablet as soon as remember, however if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the previous dose and take it according to your normal scheduled time. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.
      Pacitane tablet should be taken with food. Side effects such as sleepiness or drowsiness may be reduced if taken immediately after meals. If dry mouth occurs, take the medicine before meals. Do not chew or break or mix with beverages. Swallow it with water once taken. Take it at fixed time to get an optimal results.

      Overdosage

      Avoid overdose of the drug.Incase of overdose, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearest hospital to avoid symptomatic reactions which leads to coma or death. The symptoms of overdose of Pacitane 2MG tablet include the following:

      • Flushing
      • Skin dryness
      • Dilated pupils
      • Dry mouth
      • Tachycardia ( faster heart rate )

      Kidney:

      Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient.       Liver:

      Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

      Pregnancy:

      Pacitane 2MG is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary. The risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.

      Lactation:

      Constituents of the Pacitane tablet passes into breastmilk and can be harmful to the baby. It is advised to consult your doctor and avoid breastfeeding while on this therapy.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with Pacitane 2MG is not recommended as it increases the side effects such as difficulty in breathing, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the tablet should be reported to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      Pacitane tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occurs mild nausea, and mental confusion in some cases. This may affect your ability to drive as it causes dizziness.

      Food:

      Take with or without food. Taking with food may minimize stomach upset. May take before meals to mitigate dry mouth or may take after meals to reduce excess salivation.

      How does Trihexiphenidyl work:

      Adjunctive treatment of Parkinsons disease; treatment of drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms.

      How should Trihexiphenidyl be used:

      It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth, with food. Adult- PO- Initial: The recommended dose is 1 mgday in 3-4 divided doses, increased gradually up to 6-10 mgday according to response.

      Common side effects of Trihexiphenidyl :

      Dryness of mouth, blurring of vision, headache, nausea, nervousness, impairment of memory and organic confusional states. dizziness, constipation, delusions and hallucinations. Urinary retention, glaucoma. Arrhythmias, AV dissociation, multiple ventricular ectopics.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.
