Parkitidin tablet is used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat Parkinson’s disease. It is used to treat severe movement side effects caused by certain drugs (drug-induced movement disorder). It also helps in reducing the stiffness of the muscles and improves muscle control, allowing the patient to move naturally. It is also used as an antiviral medicine in the treatment of infections caused by the influenza A virus. Because of the increased risk of recurrent seizures, this medicine should be used with caution in patients with known history of seizure disorders. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive. There may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

Amantadine increases the concentration of dopamine (a natural substance) in the brain which helps in relieving the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It also has antiviral properties that blocks the influenza A virus from the growth and multiplying and stops the spread of infection.

How to Use

How to Use

Take Parkitidin tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
The tablet should be taken with food to avoid stomach upset. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
Do not use this medicine for durations shorter or longer than suggested by your doctor as it has a high potential of becoming habit-forming. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Parkitidin tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Motor restlessness

Kidney:

Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this tablet.

Liver:

Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Pregnancy:

Parkitidin tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy as it is known to cause harm to the fetus. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

The medicine is unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with Parkitidin tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects such as difficulty in breathing, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the tablet should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

The tablet may decrease alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness, so do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

Foods containing caffeine, tea, chocolates should be avoided as they stimulate your brain while this medicine calms the brain.

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Parkitidin tablet with clozapine, doxepin, loxapine, dicyclomine, azatadine, quinidine, levodopa.

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.
