Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Ceftriaxone is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which primarily acts on the enzymes (of the bacteria) that help in cell wall synthesis and cell-division. Thus ceftriaxone results in producing defective cells of the bacteria, distrubs the cell-wall synthesis and eventually leads to cell death.

Beta-lactamases are enzymes produced in bacteria which protect themselves from the action of antibiotics. Here, Sulbactum acts by destroying or inhibiting this beta-lactamase therefore reducing the antibiotic activity of the bacteria and allows any external antibiotic sources to work.
