      What is Bromocriptine for:

      This medication is a dopamine agonist, prescribed for Parkinson’s disease either alone or with other medications. It is also used for galactorrhoea (abnormal milk production), hypogonadism (reduced hormone production by sex hormones), infertility, suppressed lactation and menstrual disorders.

      How does Bromocriptine work:

      Bromocriptine helps keep chemical balance in the brain. It stops prolactin secretion. It helps lower blood sugar.

      How should Bromocriptine be used:

      It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth, with food.

      Common side effects of Bromocriptine :

      Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Headache. Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Not able to sleep. Low blood pressure. Low blood sugar. Signs include anger, shaking, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or sweating. Keep hard candies, glucose tablets, liquid glucose, or juice on hand for low blood sugar.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

      What precautions should I take when taking Bromocriptine :

      Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or become pregnant while being treated with Bromocriptine. - Let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding.

      When do I need to seek medical help

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very bad dizziness. Big change in balance. Change in thinking clearly and with logic. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Not able to eat. Very low blood sugar or very high blood sugar. Strong urges that are hard to control (such as gambling or sex). Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Bromocriptine with other medicines:

      Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here: - mood medicines, antidepressants or sleeping pills - blood pressure or heart medicines - antibiotics such as erythromycin or clarithromycin - migraine medicines. - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

      How do I store Bromocriptine :

      Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
