Prolomet XL 25MG Tablet belongs to a class of medicines known as beta- blockers, is used to treat hypertension (elevation of blood pressure caused by genetic or environmental factors), prevents angina (heart related chest pain), irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmia), congestive heart failure and other heart complications. It also aids in prevention of migraines, heart attacks and stroke. The medicine works by slowing down the activity of your heart allowing it to beat slower and less forcefully and also relaxes the blood vessels and improves blood flow and oxygen in the body, thereby reducing the risk of getting chest pain. This medicine is used with a proper healthy diet and exercise program to control high blood pressure for best possible effects. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

If you do, take the tablet as soon as remember, but it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the previous dose and take it according to your normal scheduled time. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.
Prolomet XL 25MG tablet may be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, it could be taken with food. The tablet is usually taken not more than once a day. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain consistent level of medicine in the body.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Prolomet XL 25MG tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

Kidney:

The medicine is safe to use among patients with kidney problems. Adjustments of dose of the medicine may not be needed. However, if you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Liver:

Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the Prolomet XL 25MG tablet may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Pregnancy:

Prolomet XL 25MG is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

The medicine is likely unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with Prolomet XL 25MG tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects such as difficulty in concentration, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

Avoid grape fruit juice as it may alter serum levels.

Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Change in sex ability. This most often goes back to normal. Feeling tired or weak. Low mood (depression). Loose stools (diarrhea). Slow heartbeat.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Metoprolol :

Metoprolol may not be suitable for certain heart conditions. Alert your doctor if you suffer from any heart conditions.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of low mood (depression), thoughts of killing yourself, nervousness, emotional ups and downs, thinking that is not normal, anxiety, or lack of interest in life. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Trouble breathing. A big weight gain. Feeling very tired or weak. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Metoprolol with other medicines:

Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here: - - other medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease, especially clonidine, prazosin. - migraine medicines such as ergotamine. - rifampicin (a TB medicine). Do not take antacids together with Metoprolol. Antacids may affect the effectiveness of Metoprolol. If you must take antacids, take it at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Metoprolol. - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
