      Qtern 5/10MG tablet is a combination medicine used to treat high blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is also used to treat heart failure by increasing the removal of sodium by your kidneys. This medicine is used with a proper healthy diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar level helps in preventing kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, stroke and loss of limbs. However, the uses of the tablet mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

      Dapagliflozin works by blocking sodium glucose co-transporter protein in the kidneys which helps in eliminating blood glucose through urine thereby controlling blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetic patients. Saxagliptin works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing the hormones that raise blood glucose levels thereby reducing the fasting and post-meal sugar levels.

      How to Use

      Take Qtern 5/10MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
      Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
      The tablet should be taken with food, immediately or after breakfast or the first main meal of the day. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. This medicine is not recommended for children below 18 years and for older adults over 75 years of age.
      Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking Qtern 5/10MG tablet more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose of the medicine, promptly ask for medical advice. Depending on the dosage of medicine, symptoms may vary in individuals, you may experience the following signs or symptoms:

If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consuming this medicine. However, use of this tablet is not suggested in patients with severe kidney diseases.

      Liver:

      Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the tablet may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consuming this medicine.

      Pregnancy:

      It is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      This medicine is considered safe to use in nursing mothers unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Since the effect of the medicine on infants is not clearly established, we recommend that you to consult your doctor before consuming the tablet.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with this tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects of the tablet. If found any symptoms of extreme drowsiness, vomiting, confusion, report to your doctor immediately.

      Driving:

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

      If you have an allergy to saxagliptin or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have any of these health problems: Acidic blood problem or type 1 diabetes.

      If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of infection. These include a fever of 100.5°F (38°C) or higher, chills, very bad sore throat, ear or sinus pain, cough, more sputum or change in color of sputum, pain with passing urine, mouth sores, wound that will not heal, or anal itching or pain. Very low blood sugar or very high blood sugar. Very bad swelling or pain of hands or feet. Very bad belly pain. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
