Ramistar 2.5MG tablet is used to treat hypertension (elevation of blood pressure caused by genetic or environmental factors), congestive heart failure and other heart complications including coronary artery disease and stroke in elderly patients. The medicine works by relaxing the blood vessels and improves blood flow and oxygen in the body, thereby reducing the risk of getting chest pain. This medicine is used with a proper healthy diet and exercise program to control high blood pressure for best possible effects. However, the uses mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

How to Use

How to Use

Take Ramistar 2.5MG tablet as instructed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or crush or chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
This tablet can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, you could take it with food. The tablet is usually taken not more than once a day. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.
Do not change the dose or stop taking the medicine before completion of the course or without consulting your doctor. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested even though the symptoms disappear after the medicine has begun.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Ramistar 2.5MG tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

Kidney:

Caution is advised among patients with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. However, if you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Liver:

Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of this medicine may be needed. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine. Inform your doctor if you develop signs of jaundice like yellowing of skin and eyes, itching and clay-colored stools while taking this tablet.

Pregnancy:

Ramistar 2.5MG tablet might be risky to use during pregnancy as it is known to cause harm to the fetus. However, in some life-threatening situations, doctors may rarely prescribe if the benefits are more than the potential risks. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

The medicine is likely unsafe to use for nursing mothers. Limited human data suggests that the medication may pass into the breastmilk and harm the infant. Consult your doctor immediately if the baby shows signs of increased sleepiness, breathing problems or difficulty in breast feeding.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with Ramistar 2.5MG tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects such as difficulty in concentration, dizziness, light headedness. Any symptoms of abnormal reactions after taking the medicine should be reported to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

Avoid grape fruit juice as it may alter serum levels.

Alert your doctor if you are taking Ramistar 2.5MG tablet with angiotensin receptor blockers, Aliskiren, dexamethasone, Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, lithium.

What is Ramipril for:

This medication is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. It is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients at risk for these problems and to improve survival in patients with heart failure after a heart attack.

How does Ramipril work:

Ramipril lowers blood pressure by lowering a strong chemical in the body. It helps the heart work better. It helps blood flow.

How should Ramipril be used:

Take as you have been told, even if you are feeling better. Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach. You may sprinkle contents of capsule on applesauce or in apple juice. Do not chew. Follow the diet and workout plan that your doctor told you about.

Common side effects of Ramipril :

Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Headache. Bad taste in your mouth. This most often goes back to normal. Cough.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take more often than every 12 hours unless told to do so by your doctor. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

If you have an allergy to ramipril or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have high blood sugar (diabetes) and are taking aliskiren. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of infection. These include a fever of 100.5°F (38°C) or higher, chills, very bad sore throat, ear or sinus pain, cough, more sputum or change in color of sputum, pain with passing urine, mouth sores, wound that will not heal, or anal itching or pain. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Trouble breathing. Too much sweat, fluid loss, throwing up, or loose stools. May lead to low blood pressure. A big weight gain. Swelling in your legs or belly. Cough that does not go away. Dark urine or yellow skin or eyes. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Ramipril with other medicines:

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines: - a mood medicine called lithium. - aspirin. - other medicines for blood pressure or heart conditions. - a type of painkiller known as NSAIDs, for example, diclofenac, mefenamic acid, ibuprofen. - diabetes medicine. - potassium supplements (either as a medicine or as a salt substitute). - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Are there any food restrictions

Cut down on your salt intake -- this may help lower your blood pressure and improve your overall health. Speak to your doctor or dietitian about ways to cut down on your salt intake. - Avoid drinking too much alcohol. Speak to your doctor if you have a drinking problem.
