Shelcal CT MAX capsule is used as a dietary supplement helps to treat calcium deficiency in the people suffering from osteoporosis (bone loss), osteomalacia (rickets), PTH dysfunction, and arthritis simultaneously helps as a supplement during growth, pregnancy, and lactation and also helps to build strong muscles. This medicine also helps to reduce coronary artery diseases, dementia, and attention deficit hyper-acidity disorder, irregular heartbeat as well as asthma, menstrual problems, hot flashes, and hay fever. Lastly, this helps in the formation of red blood cells, multiplication and protein synthesis and helps to refrain from certain types of anemic conditions and prevents changes in DNA which lead to cancer. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.



The active ingredients of Shelcal CT MAX capsule is Calcitrol 0.25mcg, Calcium Carbonate 500mg, Docosahexaenoic acid 120mg, Eicosapentaenoic acid 180mg, Elemental Boron 1.5mg, Folic acid 400mcg, Methylcobalamin 1500mcg.

Calcitriol is the active form of Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) which acts by stimulating the Calcium and Phosphate absorption. It stimulates bone resorption, renal tubular resorption. The drug also decreases PTH levels and restores bone mineralization.

Calcium Carbonate is an antacid which works by neutralizing the acid released in the stomach.

Docosahexaenoic acid is a part of Omega-3 fatty acids which helps to keep cancer, asthma, depression, cardiovascular disease, and other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, away.

Eicosapentaenoic acid works by reducing the risk of some health conditions such as heart attacks, clogged heart, and mental conditions such as schizophrenia depression or personality disorder.

Elemental boron helps in preventing the yeast that causes infections.

Folic acid plays a vital role in making DNA and other genetic material and the synthesis of red blood cells.

Methylcobalamin helps in cell multiplication, blood formation (red blood cells) and protein synthesis.

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow Shelcal CT MAX capsule whole, immediately after opening the capsule from the strip. Do not break or chew the capsule whole.
Avoid missing a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Shelcal CT MAX capsule may be taken after food.
The usual dosage for adults is 1 capsule per day or as directed by your physician.


Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Hypercalcemia
  • Anorexia
  • Thirst
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Trouble breathing
Warnings and Precautions

Take Shelcal CT MAX capsule only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:


Inform your doctor if you have any renal problems before taking Shelcal CT MAX Capsule.


Inform your doctor if you have any hepatic problems before consuming the Shelcal CT MAX Capsule.


Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before taking this Shelcal CT MAX capsule.


Consult your doctor if you are a nursing mother before taking Shelcal CT MAX capsule.

Drug Interactions:

Caution always advised when used with other drugs. Therefore, inform your doctor about your current list of medication which you start or stop during the treatment.

  • Keep Shelcal CT MAX Capsule out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store at a cool temperature and away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry date.
  • Do not use Shelcal CT MAX capsule if the capsule strip is torn or the capsule is broken/discolored.

What is calcitriol for:

This medication is a synthetic vitamin D analog, prescribed for hypocalcemia in patients undergoing chronic renal dialysis. It helps proper absorption and use of calcium and phosphate in the body.

How does calcitriol work:

It works by helping the body to use more of the calcium found in foods and supplements.

How should calcitriol be used:

PO- The recommended initial dose is 1 mcg (0.02 mcgkg) to 2 mcg administered three times weekly, approximately every other day. It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth, with or without food.

Common side effects of calcitriol :

Dry mouth, muscle pain, increased thirst, loss of appetite, vomiting, metallic taste, upset stomach, constipation, difficult urination.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking calcitriol :

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Some drugs like phenytoin, phenobarbital, prednisone and some laxatives may affect the availability. Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, pregnant, or planning to have surgery including dental procedures.

When do I need to seek medical help

Seek help if you have signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Inform doctor if you experience any bruising or bleeding, any rash, or if any side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take calcitriol with other medicines:

This drug will only work if you get the right amount of calcium from your diet. If you are being treated with dialysis, your doctor may also prescribe a low phosphate diet. Follow these directions carefully. If you do not have kidney disease, you should drink plenty of fluids when taking this drug. If you have kidney disease, talk to your doctor about how much fluid you should drink each day.

Are there any food restrictions

Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice.

How do I store calcitriol :

Store the medication at 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F).
