Supracal tablet is a nutritional supplement which is enriched with minerals, calcium. The tablet uses these components to give relief from arthritic pain and stiffness. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of joint pains, osteomalacia, osteoarthritis, rickets, hypophosphatemia, hypoparathyroidism (causing low blood calcium) and acts as building blocks for various tissues like bones, cartilage, tendons, teeth etc. The tablet improves overall joint health of individual. However, the uses of the tablet mentioned here are not comprehensive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Supracal tablet are Calcium citrate (1000Mg), Elemental magnesium (100Mg), Elemental zinc (4Mg) and Vitamin D3 (200 IU)

Supracal tablet contains minerals and calcium supplements that regenerates and maintains mechanical properties of the cartilage and provide strength in load bearing bones, thereby improving flexibility in joints. Elemental magnesium assures the firmness and strength of bones. Zinc plays a vital role in the bone remodelling cycle and is also essential for many other functions including immune system, reproduction, growth and development. Vitamin D3 enhances intestinal absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorous.

How to Use

How to Use

Take Supracal tablet as instructed by your doctor. Do not use this medicine for durations shorter or longer than suggested by your doctor. Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take the Supracal tablet as soon as remember, but its almost time for your next dose, skip the previous dose and take it according to your normal scheduled time. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested. Do not break/crush/chew the tablet.
Supracal tablet can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, it could be taken with food. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain significant level of medicine in the body.

Overdosage

Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. Overdose can lead to hypercalcaemia; extreme hypercalcaemia may lead to coma and death. Irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification may occur as a result of prolonged hypercalcaemia in some patients. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Supracal tablet, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Chest tightness
  • Easy bruising or bleeding
  • Fever
  • Blue or grey skin color
  • Bone pain
  • Cardiac arrhythmias (severe cases)

Use this tablet on the advice of medical practitioner. Dose adjustments or complete avoidance of the Supracal tablet may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this Supracal tablet.

Liver:

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with moderate to severe liver disease. If you have any hepatic problems, we recommend you to consult your doctor before the consumption of this tablet.

Pregnancy:

Supracal tablet is not considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

Lactation:

Use of excessive amounts of cholecalciferol in nursing mothers may result in hypercalcaemia in infants which may lead to supravalvular aortic syndrome, the features of may include retinopathy, mental or growth retardation. We highly recommend that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with Supracal tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects of the medicine. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the tablet, report to your doctor immediately. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments of the medicine may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

Driving:

Supracal tablet does not cause drowsiness or dizziness. If you notice any abnormal reactions after taking the medicine, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

Foods that are rich in oxalic acid (e.g., spinach) and phytic acid (e.g., whole cereals) may reduce calcium absorption by formation of insoluble calcium salts. Grape fruit juice has been shown to reduce the bioavailability of Supracal tablet.

Drug Interactions:

Alert your doctor if you are taking Supracal tablet with any of the below medicines:
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Tetracyclines
Benzalkonium chloride
Antacids containing aluminium salts
Thiazide diuretics decreases urinary excretion of calcium
Ibuprofen, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam and other NSAIDs
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
