Taxim Injection 125mg is an antibiotic medication used in the treatment of bone and joint infections, genitourinary infections, gynecological infections, intra-abdominal infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and skin structure infections, central nervous system infections, septicemia, prophylaxis of surgical infections, and gonorrhea. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredient of Taxim Injection 125mg is Cefotaxime 125mg.

Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Mechanism of Action of Cefotaxime:

Cefotaxime belongs to the β-lactam antibiotic group. beta-lactum are a group that are considered to be bactericidal by nature – they inhibit cell wall synthesis of bacteria – thus leading to bacterial cell death and reducing/preventing bacterial infections.

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Taxim Injection 125mg:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Taxim Injection 125mg such as Cefotaxime or other Cephalosporins
  • Caution:
  • Hypersensitivity to PCN
  • Renal impairment
  • Concurrent nephrotoxic agent use
  • Seizure disorder
Side Effects

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Taxim Injection 125mg. It is generally well tolerated when used in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Injection site reaction
  • Rash
  • Pruritus
  • Fever
  • Eosinophilia

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis
  • Stevens-johnson syndrome
  • Erythema multiforme
  • Interstitial nephritis
  • Agranulocytosis
  • Anemia, hemolytic
  • Neutropenia
  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Seizures
  • C. Difficile associated. Diarrhea
How to Use

How to Use

This medication is usually administered through parenteral route in a clinic or a hospital setting under the supervision of a nurse or a physician.
If self-administered, take the injection at prescribed dose and time.
Sterilize the area before taking the shot with an antiseptic swab. Pull the needle cap out and take the liquid from the vial/ampoule through the syringe.
Spread the skin at the site of injection using your hand. Slowly dart the needle into the site where the shot needs to be given at a 30-degree angle.
Ensure the needle is appropriately placed in the blood vessel and slowly pull back the plunger. Now, inject the solution slowly into the spot and once done, quickly remove the needle. To finish, press gently at the site with an alcohol swab.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Elevations of BUN and creatinine
  • Risk of reversible encephalopathy

Take Taxim Injection 125mg only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Pregnancy:

May be used during pregnancy, risk of fetal harm not expected based on animal and limited human studies. However, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Lactation:

This drug may pass into breast milk and can harm a breastfeeding infant. Therefore, inform your doctor if you are a nursing mother.

Drug Interactions:

Risk of nephrotoxicity with aminoglycosides and increased serum concentration with Probenecid.

Precautions
  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store between 15-300 C away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
  • Do not accept if any liquid discoloration or any particles are floating on the vial/ampoule.

What is Cefotaxime for:

This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections such as lower respiratory tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, skin and skin structure infections, and others. It works by fighting against the bacteria in the body.

How does Cefotaxime work:

Cefotaxime works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

How should Cefotaxime be used:

Adult: IVIM - The recommended dose is 1-2 g 4-12 hourly. Max: 12 gday. It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein or muscle.

Common side effects of Cefotaxime :

Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.

What precautions should I take when taking Cefotaxime :

If you have an allergy to cefotaxime or any other part of this drug .- Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. - Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. - Very upset stomach or throwing up. - Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. - Any bruising or bleeding. - Any rash. - Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Cefotaxime with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

Store it at controlled room temperature (15-30°C).
