Telma Beta Tablet 25mg is an anti-hypertensive medicine which helps to reduce blood pressure by widening the blood vessels and also in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy in hypertensive patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. This tablet is also used in patients with congestive heart failure, angina (chest pain) and prevents heart attacks. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Telma Beta Tablet 25mg are Telmisartan 40mg and Metoprolol 25mg.

Telmisartan acts by selectively antagonizing Angiotensin-2 AT 1 receptor. With this, it reduces vasoconstriction and blood pressure.
Metroprolol is a beta blocker works by relaxing the blood vessels and reduces hypertension. This drug also slows down the heart rate and promotes the supply of blood to the heart.

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Telma Beta Tablet 25mg:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components used in the Telma Beta Tablet 25mg such as Telmisartan and Metoprolol
  • Sinus bradycardia
  • Heart failure
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Sick sinus syndrome without pacemaker
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Caution:
  • Renal artery stenosis
  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Volume depletion
  • Hyponatremia
  • Severe CHF
  • Bronchospasmatic disease

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of this Telma Beta Tablet 25mg. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the Telma Beta Tablet 25mg whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break or chew the Telma Beta Tablet 25mg.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Telma Beta Tablet 25mg may be taken with or without food.
Take the dosage as directed by your doctor.
It is not recommended for anyone younger than 18 years.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Hypotension
  • Bradycardia
  • Tachycardia
  • Dizziness
  • Acute renal failure and serum creatinine
  • Symptomatic bradycardia
  • Bronchospasm
  • Impaired conduction
  • AV block
  • Shock
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Cyanosis

Warnings and Precautions

Take the tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Liver:

Caution advised among people with hepatic problems and dosage adjustment may be needed. If liver impairment is severe this medicine is contraindicated in such patients so it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this Telma Beta Tablet 25mg.

Pregnancy:

This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant because there is positive evidence of human fetal risk.

Lactation:

Do not take Telma Beta Tablet 25mg if you are a nursing mother because it is not known whether this drug could harm a breastfed infant or not.

Alcohol:

Do not drink alcohol if you are taking this medicine because alcohol may decrease your blood pressure and increases the side effects of Telmisartan and Metoprolol.

Driving:

Since consuming this medicine would impair your thinking or reactions, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention/physical strength.

Drug Interactions:

Caution always advised when used with other drugs such as Digoxin, Lithium, Diuretic or water pill, Ramipril or other BP medicines and NSAID’s, Prazosin, Terbinafine, Antidepressants and MAO inhibitors, etc. However, inform your doctor about your previous and current history of medicines which you start or stop.

Precautions
  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Keep the medicine in room temperature away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
  • Do not use Telma Beta Tablet 25mg if the tablet strip is torn or the tablet is broken.
  • Avoid sudden or too quick sitting or lying postures to prevent a fall because the tablet some times lead to postural hypotension.

What is Metoprolol for:

This medication is a beta-blocker, prescribed for high blood pressure either alone or with other medications. It is also used for chest pain, migraine and hyperthyroidism.

How does Metoprolol work:

It reduces elevated blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels.

How should Metoprolol be used:

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food. The recommended dose range is 10 to 300mgday in divided doses.

Common side effects of Metoprolol :

Feeling lightheaded, sleepy, having blurred eyesight, or a change in thinking clearly. Avoid driving and doing other tasks or actions that call for you to be alert or have clear eyesight until you see how this drug affects you. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Change in sex ability. This most often goes back to normal. Feeling tired or weak. Low mood (depression). Loose stools (diarrhea). Slow heartbeat.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Metoprolol :

Metoprolol may not be suitable for certain heart conditions. Alert your doctor if you suffer from any heart conditions.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of low mood (depression), thoughts of killing yourself, nervousness, emotional ups and downs, thinking that is not normal, anxiety, or lack of interest in life. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Trouble breathing. A big weight gain. Feeling very tired or weak. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Metoprolol with other medicines:

Alert your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially those listed here: - - other medicines for high blood pressure or heart disease, especially clonidine, prazosin. - migraine medicines such as ergotamine. - rifampicin (a TB medicine). Do not take antacids together with Metoprolol. Antacids may affect the effectiveness of Metoprolol. If you must take antacids, take it at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after you take Metoprolol. - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
