Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg is an anti-hypertensive medicine which helps to reduce blood pressure by widening the blood vessels and also in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy – in hypertensive patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. This tablet is also used to relieve from fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, kidney disorders or edema caused by steroids or estrogen intake. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.



The active ingredients of Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg are Chlortalidone 6.25mg and Telmisartan 80mg.

Telmisartan acts by selectively antagonizing Angiotensin-2 AT 1 receptor by this, it reduces vasoconstriction and blood pressure.
Chlortalidone is a thiazide diuretic water pill which prevents your body from absorbing too much salt.

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components used in the Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg such as Chlorthalidone or other sulfonamide derivatives and Telmisartan
  • Anuria
  • Symptomatic hyperuricemia
  • Refractory hypokalemia
  • Hyponatremia
  • Hypercalcemia
  • Adrenal insufficiency
  • HTN during pregnancy
  • Hepatic or renal impairment (severe)
  • Concomitant lithium therapy
  • Caution:
  • Renal artery stenosis
  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Volume depletion
  • Hyponatremia
  • Severe CHF

Side Effects

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Telma CT tablet 80/6.25mg. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Back pain

  • Hypokalemia
  • Hyponatremia
  • Hypochloremia

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break/crush/chew the Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg maybe take with food.
Take the dosage as directed by your doctor at the prescribed time and dosage.


Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience any one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Hypotension
  • Bradycardia
  • Tachycardia
  • Dizziness
  • Acute renal failure and serum creatinine
  • Nausea
  • Somnolence
  • Hypovolemia
  • Hypotension
  • Electrolyte disturbance
  • Cardiac arrhythmia
  • Muscle spasm

Take the tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:


Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg.


Caution advised among people with hepatic problems and dosage adjustment may be needed. If liver impairment is severe this medicine is contraindicated in such patients so it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg.


This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant because there is positive evidence of human fetal risk.


Do not take this medicine if you are a nursing mother because it is not known whether this drug could harm a breastfed infant or not.


Do not drink alcohol if you are taking this medicine because alcohol may decrease your blood pressure and increases the side effects of Telmisartan and Chlortalidone.

Drug Interactions:

Caution always advised when used with other drugs such as Digoxin, Lithium, Diuretic or water pill, Ramipril or other BP medicines and NSAID’s, etc. However, inform your doctor about your previous and current history of medicines which you have used.

  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Keep the medicine in room temperature away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
  • Do not use Telma CT Tablet 80/6.25mg if the tablet strip is torn or the tablet is broken.
  • Avoid sudden or too quick sitting or lying positions to prevent a fall because the tablet some times lead to postural hypotension.

What is Chlorthalidone for:

It is used to treat high blood pressure and fluid retention caused due to various conditions.

How does Chlorthalidone work:

It is a diuretic and gets rid of unnecessary salt and water from the body.

How should Chlorthalidone be used:

It comes as a tablet, usually taken once a day or once in two days. It is best to take the medicine in the morning to avoid going to bathroom at night. Take it exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less of it. It controls high blood pressure but does not cure it. Continue to take it even if you feel well unless instructed by your doctor.

Common side effects of Chlorthalidone :

Muscle weakness, dizziness, cramps, thirst, stomach pain, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Many times this drug is taken on an as needed basis.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of low potassium. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Not able to pass urine. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Store it at room temperature, and in an airtight container. Keep out of the reach of children.
