Telma H Tablet 40mg is an anti-hypertensive and thiazide diuretic (water pill) medicine which helps to reduce blood pressure by widening the blood vessels and also used in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy – in hypertensive patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus. This tablet is also used in patients with congestive heart failure as well as among those who can not tolerate ACE inhibitors. This medicine also helps to relieve from fluid retention. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctors discretion.

The active ingredients of Telma H Tablet 40mg are Telmisartan 40mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg.

Telmisartan acts by selectively antagonizing Angiotensin-2 AT 1 receptor. With this, it reduces vasoconstriction and blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide helps to decrease the absorption rate of salt in your body – thus relieving from fluid retention.

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Telma H Tablet 40mg:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components used in the Telma H tablet 40mg such as Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothiazide or any other Sulfonamides

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of this Telma H tablet 40mg. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break or chew the Telma H Tablet 40mg.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Do not swallow two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take the dosage as directed by your doctor at the prescribed time and dose.
It is not recommended for children younger than 18 years.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Hypotension
  • Bradycardia
  • Tachycardia
  • Dizziness
  • Acute renal failure and serum creatinine
  • Dehydration
  • Electrolyte depletion

Warnings and Precautions

Take the Telma H tablet 80mg only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney:

Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of Telma H Tablet 40mg.

Liver:

Caution advised among people with hepatic-related problems and dosage adjustment may be needed. If liver impairment is severe this medicine is contraindicated in such patients so it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this Telma H Tablet 40mg.

Pregnancy:

This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant because there is positive evidence of human fetal risk.

Lactation:

Do not take this medicine if you are a nursing mother because it is not known whether this drug could harm a breastfed infant or not.

Alcohol:

Do not drink alcohol if you are taking this medicine because alcohol may decrease your blood pressure and increases the side effects of Telmisartan.

Drug Interactions:

Caution always advised when used with other drugs such as Digoxin, Lithium, Diuretic or water pill, Ramipril or other BP medicines and NSAID’s etc. Therefore, inform your doctor about your curret list of medicines which you start or stop during the treatment, if any.

Precautions
  • Keep the Telma H Tablet 40mg out of sight and reach of children.
  • Keep the medicine in room temperature away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
  • Do not use Telma H Tablet 40mg if the tablet strip is torn or the tablet is broken.
  • Avoid sudden or too quick sitting or lying positions to prevent a fall because the tablet some times lead to postural hypotension.

What is Hydrochlorothiazide for:

This medication is a thiazide diuretic, prescribed for high blood pressure (hypertension) and edema.

How does Hydrochlorothiazide work:

It helps the kidneys to remove fluid from the body.

How should Hydrochlorothiazide be used:

It comes as a tablet and liquid to take by mouth, with food. dult- HTN- The recommended dose is 12.5 to 50 mg once daily. Edema- The recommended dose is 25-100 mg once daily or in divided doses.

Common side effects of Hydrochlorothiazide :

Low potassium levels. Signs include feeling tired, weak, numbness, or tingling; muscle cramps; hard stools (constipation); throwing up; or a fast heartbeat. Feeling dizzy. Rise slowly over a few minutes when sitting or lying down. Be careful climbing. Upset stomach or throwing up. What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

What precautions should I take when taking Hydrochlorothiazide :

If you have an allergy to hydrochlorothiazide or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs. If you have a sulfa (sulfonamide) allergy, talk with your doctor. If you have kidney disease. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Signs of low potassium. Very bad dizziness or passing out. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Not able to pass urine. Sudden change in eyesight, eye pain, or irritation. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Hydrochlorothiazide with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
