      Tenactive capsule is a nutritional supplement which is enriched with collagen, mucopolysaccharide polysulphate and vitamin C as major ingredients. The capsule uses these components to give relief from arthritic pain and stiffness. It is commonly used for the treatment of joint pains, osteomalacia, osteoarthritis and acts as building blocks for various tissues like bones, cartilage, tendons, teeth etc. The capsule enables protection against infection and help in iron absorption and also stimulates synthesis of collagen in skin. However, the uses of the capsule mentioned here are not exhaustive, there may be other conditions for which the medication may be used upon your doctor’s discretion.

      Tenactive capsule contains minerals and calcium supplements that regenerates and maintains mechanical properties of the cartilage and provide strength in load bearing bones, thereby improving flexibility in joints. Collagen is a major constituent of bone cartilage and loss of collagen leads to osteoarthritis and cartilage damage. Collagen supplementation has significant role in treating and preventing osteoarthritis. The capsule regenerates cartilage and provide strength in load bearing bones, thereby improving flexibility in joints. Mucopolysaccharide polysulphate lowers the inflammation associated with osteoarthritis by reducing the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are natural anti-inflammatory substances.
      Vitamin C (an antioxidant) is a water-soluble vitamin maintains the connective tissue protein collagen in skin.

      How to Use

      Take Tenactive capsule as instructed by your doctor. Do not use this medicine for durations shorter or longer than suggested by your doctor. Avoid missing or forgetting the dose. If you do, take the Tenactive capsule as soon as remember, but its almost time for your next dose, skip the previous dose and take it according to your normal scheduled time. Continue to use this drug until completion of the maximum amount suggested. Do not break/crush/chew the capsule.
      Tenactive capsule can be taken with or without food. If significant stomach upset occurs, it could be taken with food. Take the capsule at the same time as it helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body.

      Overdosage

      Avoid taking medicine more than the prescribed dosage. Overdose can lead to hypercalcaemia; extreme hypercalcaemia may lead to coma and death. Irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification may occur as a result of prolonged hypercalcaemia in some patients. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the capsule, promptly seek medical attention. Depending on the dosage of Tenactive capsule, symptoms vary in individuals, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:

      • Easy bruising or bleeding
      • Fever
      • Blue or grey skin color
      • Bone pain
      • Cardiac arrhythmias (severe cases)

      Kidney:

      Caution is advised among people with kidney problems. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any renal problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this Tenactive capsule.

      Liver:

      This medicine should be used with caution in patients with moderate to severe liver disease. If you have any hepatic problems, we recommend you to consult your doctor before the consumption of this capsule.

      Pregnancy:

      Tenactive capsule might be risky to use during pregnancy. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in human beings, animal studies have shown effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consuming this medicine.

      Lactation:

      Use of excessive amounts of cholecalciferol in nursing mothers may result in hypercalcaemia in infants which may lead to supravalvular aortic syndrome, the features of may include retinopathy, mental or growth retardation. We highly recommend that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

      Alcohol:

      Consumption of alcohol with Tenactive capsule is not recommended as it increases side effects of the medicine. If you notice any unusual or abnormal reactions after taking the capsule, report to your doctor immediately. If you consume alcohol on regular basis, relevant dose adjustments of the medicine may be necessary depending on your clinical condition.

      Driving:

      Tenactive capsule does not cause drowsiness or dizziness. If you notice any abnormal reactions after taking the medicine, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

      Food:

      Foods that are rich in oxalic acid (e.g., spinach) and phytic acid (e.g., whole cereals) may reduce calcium absorption by formation of insoluble calcium salts. Grape fruit juice has been shown to reduce the bioavailability of Tenactive capsule.

      Drug Interactions:

      Alert your doctor if you are taking Tenactive capsule with any of the below medicines:
      Warfarin (Coumadin)
      Tetracyclines
      Benzalkonium chloride
      Antacids containing aluminium salts
      Thiazide diuretics decreases urinary excretion of calcium
      Ibuprofen, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam and other NSAIDs
      Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

      Precautions

      Take with or without food. Take with food if it causes an upset stomach. Take with a full glass of water. Mix powder with water and drink. There is a liquid (solution) if you cannot swallow pills. Those who have feeding tubes may also use the liquid. Flush the feeding tube before and after this drug is given. Chewable tablet: Chew or crush well. Mix crushed tablet with food. Do not swallow it whole. Long-acting products: Swallow whole. Do not chew, break, or crush.

      Kidney stones may rarely happen.

      What do I do if I miss a dose

      Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses.

      If you have an allergy to ascorbic acid or any other part of this drug. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had.       If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Back pain, belly pain, or blood in the urine. May be signs of a kidney stone. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

      Can I take Vitamin C with other medicines:

      Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.
