This medication is an analogue of vasopressin, prescribed for bleeding esophageal varices, septic shock, hepatorenal syndrome and in management of low blood pressure.
It regulates the bodys retention of water by acting to increase water absorption in the kidney.
It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein. Adult: IV- Initial: The recommended dose is 2 mg, then 1 or 2 mg 4-6 hourly until bleeding is controlled, up to 72 hour.
Abdominal cramps, chest pain, abnormal heart rhythm, nausea, headache, transient blanching and increased arterial pressure.

Contraindicated in patients with heart disease, chronic kidney inflammation, pregnancy and hypersensitivity.
If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. If the yeast infection keeps coming back. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
Caution should be exercised in patients with high blood pressure, asthma, hardening of the arteries, heart disease, liver disease, conditions that may be aggravated by water retention, e.g. heart failure.
Avoid Alcohol

Category D : There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
