      Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Nortriptyline, a dibenzo cycloheptadiene tricyclic antidepressant, works by increasing the levels of chemical messengers – serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain that stops the movement of pain signals. Pregabalin, an analog of neurotransmitter GABA, works by reducing the levels of chemical transmitters (glutamate, dopamine) and reduces pain by modulating calcium channel activity of nerve cells, protects nerve fibres and rejuvenates damaged nerve cells, together relieving neuropathic pain.
