Volibo M 0.3MG tablet is a long-acting oral anti-diabetic medicine used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medicine is used with a proper healthy diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. It helps in getting rid of extra glucose from the body through urine. The medicine reduces the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease in type 2 diabetic patients. Controlling high blood sugar level helps in preventing kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems and loss of limbs is lowered. However, the uses of the tablet mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Volibo M 0.3MG tablet are Metformin (500Mg) and Voglibose (0.3MG)

Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. Voglibose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of complex sugars into simple sugars such as glucose, thereby preventing rise of glucose levels after meals. The combination is thus better effective in lowering blood glucose levels.

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow Volibo M 0.3MG tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break or chew or crush the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take Volibo M 0.3MG tablet as early as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take it at the next regularly scheduled time. The tablet should be taken with food, immediately or during breakfast or the first main meal of the day. Take the tablet at the same time every day as it helps to maintain consistent level of medicine in the body.
This medicine is not recommended for children below 18 years of age.

Overdosage

Avoid taking Volibo M 0.3MG tablet more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose of the medicine, promptly ask for medical advice. Depending on the dosage of the medicine, symptoms may vary in individuals, you may experience the following signs or symptoms:

  • Hypoglycaemia
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating
  • Lactic acidosis
  • Muscle cramps

Kidney:

Among people with renal problems, caution is recommended. Close monitoring of kidney function and adjustments of dose of the medicine may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine. However, this medicine is not recommended in patients with severe renal diseases.

Liver:

Caution is advised among people with liver problems. Dose adjustments of the Volibo M 0.3MG tab may be needed based on the clinical condition of the patient. If you have any hepatic problems, it is highly recommended that you consult doctor before the consumption of this medicine.

Pregnancy:

Volibo M 0.3MG tablet is considered safe to use in pregnant women unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Despite the fact that there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown no or low adverse effects on the developing baby. It is recommended that you consult your doctor before consumption of this medicine.

Lactation:

This medicine is not considered safe to use in nursing mothers unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved. Since the effect of the medicine on infants is not clearly established, we recommend that you to consult your doctor before consuming the tablet.

Alcohol:

Consumption of alcohol with Volibo M 0.3MG tablet is not recommended as it increases side effects of the tablet. If found any symptoms of extreme drowsiness, vomiting, confusion, report to your doctor immediately.

Driving:

This medicine affects blood glucose levels and decreases alertness, cause impaired judgement, affect your vision and make you feel dizzy, light headedness, confusion, so do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention or physical strength.

Food:

There are no known food interactions with Volibo M 0.3MG tablet.

Drug Interactions:

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines which includes over-the-counter drugs, herbal tonics, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription. Alert your doctor if you are taking Volibo M 0.3MG tablet along with insulin, sulfonyl urea, ACE inhibitors, cimetidine, trimethoprim, acetazolamide, NSAIDs, dichlorphenamide, Iodinated contrast media, isavucinazole, ranolazine.

Common side effects of Metformin :

Low blood sugar signs include, anger, shaking, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or sweating. Keep hard candies, glucose tablets, liquid glucose, or juice on hand for low blood sugar. - Belly pain. - Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. - Loose stools (diarrhea). - Not hungry. - Bad taste in your mouth. This most often goes back to normal. - Too much acid in the blood (lactic acidosis) may rarely happen.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Metformin :

Metformin may not be suitable for you if you suffer from heart, liver, kidney, adrenal or pituitary disease. - Alert your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. - If you are going for an operation, dental work or any X-ray procedure in which a dye is injected, inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking Metformin. - You may need to stop taking Metformin before the procedure and wait 48 hours to restart your medicine.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. - Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. - These include wheezing, chest tightness, fever, itching, bad cough, blue or gray skin color, seizures, or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. - Very low blood sugar or very high blood sugar. - Very bad dizziness. - Trouble breathing. - Feeling cold. - Very bad belly pain. - Very upset stomach or throwing up. - Very loose stools (diarrhea). - A big weight loss. - Very bad muscle pain or weakness. - Feeling very tired or weak. - Any rash. - Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse
