Xone O tablet is an antibiotic used in the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea, pelvic inflammatory disease, urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, skin infections soft tissue infections, uncomplicated genital infections due to chlamydia trachomatis, septicemia, otitis externa, and acute otitis media. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.
The active ingredients of Xone O tablet are Cefpodoxime 200mg and Ofloxacin 200mg.
Cefpodoxime is active against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. It primarily targets the primary constituent of bacterial cell walls- thus leads to the inhibition of cell wall synthesis and eventually results in cell death.
Ofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic with bactericidal properties (kills bacteria). It helps to stop the growth of bacteria and thus treats bacterial infections.

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Xone O tablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in prescribed dosage guidelines. Common ones are generally mild and may include:
Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:
Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the tablet immediately after opening it from the strip. Do not break or chew the Xone O tablet.
Avoid missing/forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time in order to compensate for the missed dose which may be dangerous to your health.
Xone O tablet may be taken with food.
Take the medicine at the prescribed dose and time.
Do not discontinue the prescribed length of course even though the symptoms disappear soon.
Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:
Take Xone O tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:
Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.
Caution advised among people with hepatic problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of this medicine.
Cefpodoxime: This drug may be used during pregnancy. However, consider taking the tablet only if suggested by your doctor.
Ofloxacin: Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before taking the tablet – it is not known whether this tablet may harm an unborn or not.
Do not breastfeed after taking this tablet because this drug can pass through breast milk and harm a breastfeeding infant.
Do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may need your alertness because this medicine may impair your reactions or thinking.
Avoid taking antacids, theophylline, diuretic or water pill, amiodarone, procainamide, sotalol and NSAIDs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, probenecid, antivirals, or other antibiotics, medicine for bowel diseases, etc – this is not the complete list of possible drug interactions. Therefore, inform your doctor if you start or stop using any other medicine during the treatment.
Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant the use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
It is used to treat bacterial infections.
It works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.
Take Cefpodoxime exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor. Take Cefpodoxime at regular intervals as instructed. Do not skip any doses. Continue to take it even when you feel better. You must complete the entire course of antibiotic. If you dont, the infection will not clear completely. Take Cefpodoxime with food to improve the absorption. If you have been given tablets, swallow them whole. If you have been given an oral suspension, shake the bottle well before you take it to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure your dose.
Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. - For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.
Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.
Alert your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions (rash, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes) to similar antibiotics such as cefalexin, cefuroxime, cefixime, ceftibuten or any other cephalosporin antibiotics. - Alert your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin antibiotics, for example, amoxicillin, ampicillin and cloxacillin. Penicillins are related to cephalosporins and if you are allergic to one, you may be allergic to the other too.
If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away.- Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat.Very upset stomach or throwing up. - Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. - Any bruising or bleeding. - Any rash. - Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.
Cefpodoxime should not be taken with antacids and other gastric medicines such as cimetidine, ranitidine and famotidine. This is because these medicines could reduce the effectiveness of Cefpodoxime. If you must take antacids or gastric medicines, take between meals at least 2 hours before or after you have taken Cefpodoxime. - Alert your doctor if you are taking probenecid. - Always inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal medicines and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid Alcohol
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. - Refrigerate the oral suspension (between 2-8°C) once you have mixed the powder with water. Do not freeze it otherwise it will become less effective. Throw away any unused portion after 14 days. - Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the foetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus.
