Zenflox Plus tablet is used in the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea, pelvic inflammatory disease, urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, and septicemia. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.

The active ingredients of Zenflox Plus tablet are Ofloxacin 200mg and Cefixime 200mg.

Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone which acts by showing bactericidal activity against a wide range of gram negative and gram positive microorganisms and also restrain bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase enzymes.

On the other hand, Cefixime is a bactericidal agent. This drug binds to penicillin-binding proteins located inside the bacterial cell wall and slows down the growth of bacterial cell wall synthesis results in bacterial cell death (bactericidal activity).

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before taking this medicine:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the drugs used in the tablet such as Ofloxacin, Cefixime or to other Quinolones
  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • QT prolongation
  • Caution:
  • Bradycardia
  • Ventricular arrhythmias
  • Kidney or lung or heart transplant
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • CNS disorder
  • Seizure disorder
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Renal impairment
  • Phenylalanine containing forms
  • Concurrent nephrotoxic agent use

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Zenflox Plus tablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Abnormal ECG
  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Photosensitivity
  • Rash
  • Agitation
  • Confusion
  • Dyspepsia
  • Flatulence
  • Rash

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Seizures
  • Toxic psychosis
  • Skin reaction severe
  • Depression
  • Serum sickness
  • Suicidality
  • Hepatotoxicity
  • Crystalluria
  • Hypoglycemia severe
  • Stevens-johnson syndrome
How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break or chew the tablet whole.
Avoid missing/forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Zenflox Plus tablet may be taken with or without food, may be taken with food to reduce GI discomfort.
Dosage, as recommended by your doctor, pharmacist, or health care professional or follow the instructions given on the prescription.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental over dose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Confusion
  • Dizziness
  • Impairment of consciousness
  • GI reactions mild to moderate

Take the tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Pregnancy:

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before taking this tablet – it is not known whether this tablet may harm an unborn or not.

Lactation:

Do not breast-feed after taking this tablet because this drug can pass through breast milk and harm a breastfeeding baby.

Drug Interactions:

Taking antacids may reduce the absorption of the drug (cefixime) in the body. Avoid taking theophylline, a diuretic or water pill, amiodarone, procainamide, sotalol, and others – this is not the complete list of possible drug interactions. Therefore, always inform your doctor if you start or stop any medication.

Precautions
  • Keep Zenflox Plus tablet out of sight and reach of children.
  • Keep it in a cool and dry place, away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry date.
  • Do not use this medicine if the tablet strip is torn or the tablet is discolored.

What is Cefixime for:

This medication is an oral cephalosporin (third generation) antibiotic, prescribed for gonorrhea, tonsillitis and pharyngitis. It works by fighting against the bacteria in the body.

How does Cefixime work:

Cefixime works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

How should Cefixime be used:

Adult: PO- Susceptible infections- The recommended dose is 200-400 mgday. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea- The recommended dose is 400 mg as a single dose. It comes as a tablet, capsule and syrup to take by mouth, with food.

Common side effects of Cefixime :

Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. - Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. - For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Cefixime :

If you have an allergy to cefixime or any other part of this drug. - Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. Any bruising or bleeding. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Cefixime with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

Store it at room temperature and in an airtight container. Keep away from children.
