Mechanism of Action of Drugs

Mechanism of Action of Drugs

With its bactericidal properties, Cefixime binds to penicillin-binding proteins located inside the bacterial cell wall and slows down the growth of bacterial cell wall synthesis; thus resulting in bacterial cell death (bactericidal activity).

Clavulanic Acid Inhibits cell wall mucopeptide synthesis. In addition to this, the drug also inhibits the beta-lactamases, which are the enzymes produced by bacteria that provide multi-resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics – thus shows its bacteriocidal property.
