Zifi DT (Dispersable Tablet) is used as an antibiotic designed to make easy administration especially for pediatrics and geriatrics for quick absorption, and rapid onset of action. This medicine acts against certain bacteria by preventing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

Mechanism of Action of Cefixime

With its bactericidal properties, Cefixime binds to penicillin-binding proteins located inside the bacterial cell wall and slows down the growth of bacterial cell wall synthesis; thus resulting in bacterial cell death (bactericidal activity).

Patients with following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before taking Zifi DT Tablet 50mg:

  • Hypersenstivity to any of the ingredients used in the Zifi DT tablet 50mg such as Cefixime and other Cephalosporins

  • Concurrent Nephrotoxic agent use
  • Seizure disorder
Side Effects

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Zifi DT 50mgtablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Loose stools
  • Dyspepsia
  • Flatulence
  • Anorexia
  • Pruritus Ani
  • Dryness of Mouth

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Dysuria
  • Pyuria
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Erythema multiforme
  • Steven-johnson syndrome
  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis
  • Acute renal failure
  • Anemia hemolytic
  • Blood dyscrasias
  • Superinfection
  • C. Difficile-associated diarrhea

How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Zifi DT Tablet 50mg (Dispersable Tablet) that can be dispersed in liquids such as water and milk. Mix it immediately after opening the tablet from the strip and consume the mixture immediately.
Do not break /chew/swallow the tablet whole.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Do not consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Zifi DT tablet may be taken with or without food, preferably with food to avoid GI disturbances.
Take the dosage as recommended by your doctor.

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience GI disturbances.

Take the tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Pregnancy:

This drug may be used during pregnancy – the risk of fetal harm is not seen. However, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Lactation:

Do not breastfeed a baby if you are taking this medicine because it is not known whether this drug may pass into breast milk or not.

Food Interactions:

Delayed absorption of the drug in the presence of food.

Drug Interactions:

Caution always advised when used with other medicines especially cephalosporin antibiotics such as cefaclor, cefadroxil, Cefazolin, Cefdinir, Cefditoren, Cefpodoxime, Cefprozil, Ceftibuten, Cephalexin, Cephradine.

Precautions
  • Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store this medicine away from heat, moisture, and light.
  • Do not use Zifi DT tablet 50mg beyond its expiry.
  • Use Zifi DT tablet for the full length of the prescribed course.

What is Cefixime for:

This medication is an oral cephalosporin (third generation) antibiotic, prescribed for gonorrhea, tonsillitis and pharyngitis. It works by fighting against the bacteria in the body.

How does Cefixime work:

Cefixime works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

How should Cefixime be used:

Adult: PO- Susceptible infections- The recommended dose is 200-400 mgday. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea- The recommended dose is 400 mg as a single dose. It comes as a tablet, capsule and syrup to take by mouth, with food.

Common side effects of Cefixime :

Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. - Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. - For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Cefixime :

If you have an allergy to cefixime or any other part of this drug. - Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. Any bruising or bleeding. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Cefixime with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

Store it at room temperature and in an airtight container. Keep away from children.
