Zifi Oral Drops 10ml is meant for neonates or pediatrics. It is an antibiotic that acts against certain bacterial infections by preventing or inhibiting the growth of bacteria. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctors discretion.



The active ingredient of Zifi Oral Drops 10ml is Cefixime 25mg/5ml.

With its bactericidal properties, Cefixime binds to penicillin-binding proteins located inside the bacterial cell wall and slows down the growth of bacterial cell wall synthesis; thus resulting in bacterial cell death (bactericidal activity).

Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before giving Zifi Oral Drops 10ml:

  • Hypersenstivity to any of the ingredients used in the Zifi Oral Drops 10ml such as Cefixime and other Cephalosporins


  • Concurrent Nephrotoxic agent use
  • Seizure disorder
Side Effects

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur to your child during the usage of Zifi Oral Drops 10ml. It is generally well tolerated when given in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Loose stools
  • Dyspepsia
  • Flatulence
  • Anorexia
  • Pruritus Ani
  • Dryness of Mouth

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Dysuria
  • Pyuria
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Erythema multiforme
  • Steven-johnson syndrome
  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis
  • Acute renal failure
  • Anemia hemolytic
  • Blood dyscrasias
  • Superinfection
  • C. Difficile-associated diarrhea
  • Seizures
How to Use

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor, or follow the directions given on the bottle or container.
Zifi Oral Drops 10ml is meant for oral administration. Shake the bottle well before consumption. Dosage can be administered with the dropper that comes along with the container.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, give it to your child as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your infant’s next dose, skip it and give it according to their normal schedule. Do not give two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your baby’s health.
Dosage as recommended by your doctor or follow the instructions given on the prescription.


Avoid giving more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but your child may experience any one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

Give the drops only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Food Interactions:

Delayed absorption of the drug in the presence of food.

Drug Interactions:

Caution always advised when used with other medicines especially cephalosporin antibiotics such as cefaclor, cefadroxil, Cefazolin, Cefdinir, Cefditoren, Cefpodoxime, Cefprozil, Ceftibuten, Cephalexin, Cephradine.

  • Keep this medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store this medicine away from heat, moisture, and light.
  • Do not use Zifi Oral Drops 10ml beyond its expiry.
  • Use the medicine for the full length of the prescribed course.

Drug Composition information
What is Cefixime for:

This medication is an oral cephalosporin (third generation) antibiotic, prescribed for gonorrhea, tonsillitis and pharyngitis. It works by fighting against the bacteria in the body.

How does Cefixime work:

Cefixime works to harm the bacteria and fight the infection.

How should Cefixime be used:

Adult: PO- Susceptible infections- The recommended dose is 200-400 mgday. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea- The recommended dose is 400 mg as a single dose. It comes as a tablet, capsule and syrup to take by mouth, with food.

Common side effects of Cefixime :

Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help. - Loose stools (diarrhea). Yogurt or probiotics may help. You may get these products at health food stores or in some pharmacies. - For women, vaginal yeast infection. Report itching or discharge.

What do I do if I miss a dose

Take a missed dose as soon as you think about it. - If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time. - Do not take 2 doses at the same time or extra doses. - Do not change the dose or stop this drug. - Talk with the doctor.

What precautions should I take when taking Cefixime :

If you have an allergy to cefixime or any other part of this drug. - Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.

When do I need to seek medical help

If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away. Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue or gray skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat. Very upset stomach or throwing up. Very loose stools (diarrhea), even after drug is stopped. Any bruising or bleeding. Any rash. Side effect or health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

Can I take Cefixime with other medicines:

Sometimes drugs are not safe when you take them with certain other drugs and food. - Taking them together can cause bad side effects. - Be sure to talk to your doctor about all the drugs you take.

Store it at room temperature and in an airtight container. Keep away from children.

Category B : Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women OR Animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester.
